Harriman’s Falls Education Centre and Museum (HFECM) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation established to preserve and protect local history and historically significant structures in the North Country of New Hampshire. HFECM is also chartered to educate and to engage in socially responsible programs that will benefit the community.
Consistent with these objectives, HFECM has begun the restoration of the Moses P. Payson Mansion. Built in 1810, the Payson Mansion is the oldest and most prominent home in Bath Village.
The HFECM initiative is to develop and house socially responsible, self-funding, programs that will benefit the community while at the same time provide an economic stimulus to the North Country through lower tax burdens at the State, County and Town levels.
The North Country is both the past and the future of New Hampshire. Through either great planning or pure blind luck, we have preserved vast tracks of beautiful open land and a way of life that made America, and New England, what it is today.
However, while the quality of life is the envy of most of the country, quality of living leaves much to be desired. While Southern NH enjoys the fruits and benefits of a thriving economy, the North Country has one of the lowest per capita income rates in New England.
While many grandiose plans, such as an East/West Interstate, have been discussed; they are unlikely to happen within our lifetimes – If ever.
HFECM addresses problems we can resolve today; problems which will
have a positive impact on the North Country.
